smoke advisory

We are currently in a smoke advisory. It smells like a campfire at my work.

RIVER ROAD...ORIENTAL...ALLIANCE... BAYBORO...ARAPAHOE... MINNESOTT BEACH...VANDEMERE...STONEWALL 1127 AM EDT WED JUN 11 2008

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEWPORT/MOREHEAD CITY HAS ISSUED A DENSE SMOKE ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING.

SMOKE FROM A LARGE WILDFIRE OVER NORTHERN MAINLAND HYDE...TYRRELL AND SOUTHEASTERN WASHINGTON COUNTY WILL DRIFT SOUTH OVER MOST OF MAINLAND HYDE COUNTY AND INTO PORTIONS OF BEAUFORT AND PAMLICO COUNTIES THIS AFTERNOON. VISIBILITIES WILL BE REDUCED TO LESS THAN ONE QUARTER MILE IN SPOTS... ESPECIALLY NEAR HIGHWAYS 264 AND 94 IN MAINLAND HYDE COUNTY AS WELL AS MANY LOCAL ROADS. THICK SMOKE MAY REACH THE HIGHWAY 17 CORRIDOR LATER THIS AFTERNOON.

A DENSE SMOKE ADVISORY MEANS WIDESPREAD FIRES WILL CREATE SMOKE... LIMITING VISIBILITIES. IF DRIVING... SLOW DOWN...USE YOUR HEADLIGHTS...AND LEAVE PLENTY OF DISTANCE AHEAD OF YOU IN CASE A SUDDEN STOP IS NEEDED.
